Folk Arts and Cultural Treasures Charter School

The FACTS Charter School received its license after a strict and careful review of all aspects of our operation. All teachers meet the same state requirements for teaching as any public school teacher in Pennsylvania. However, we can be even more selective in hiring than other public schools because charter schools are permitted to directly hire their own teachers instead of having teachers assigned to the school. FACTS is committed to bringing in and training only the highest quality teachers.

FACTS is built around a team teaching structure. We believe quality instruction and education happens in a collegial and nurturing environment. Our teaching staff is organized into grade clusters with three teachers per cluster. Each teacher team works across three grade levels - K-2 for a primary cluster and 3-5 for an intermediate cluster. Each team stays with their children for three years. Additional teaching support is given for Mandarin language study and the arts. ESOL and special education services are provided.

At FACTS, teachers are treated with respect and are given support to grow as professionals in their field. Training and support for teachers includes:

  • an intensive summer training in the Project CHILD curriculum model;
  • professional development in English language acquisition theory and practice;
  • observation and supportive feedback from fellow teachers; and
  • support and feedback from Project CHILD coaches and coordinators
